Fealsamthom, Your Time is Now

Legislation has been proposed by the Tománnach opposition, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), which would lead to the deletion of article twelve, the article which lead to the formal protection and integration into the Republic of the socialist enclave of the East Fealsamthom Soviet Republic, later renamed the Tománn Republic of East Fealsamthom.

Originally the breakaway EFSR, also known as the Democratic Republic of Fealsamthom, was annexed by the Republic of Talamthom reunifying Co. Fealsamthom, and incorporating the area fully into the Republic. Following the Constitutional Convention the area of East Fealsamthom was afforded special administrative region status due to pressure from the Communist Party and the Labour Party of Talamthom. The area was given special status via the text of article twelve (then article eleven) and name the Tománn Republic of East Fealsamthom.

Following a period of left-wing stagnation within the Republic, and general inactivity in East Fealsamthom, the DLP saw fit to propose an amendment to unify Co. Fealsamthom once and for all. No Labour or Communist members have been available for comment.

News in Brief

Inactivity Fading

Inactivity which has been blighting the progress of the Dáil in the Republic is slowly dissappearing as many different projects begin to take shape. There was a fear that due to low participation levels by many members that the 'November' elections wouldn't be happening - as it is they will be delayed but are well on their way to being organised.

Santos Laguna

The small island of Santos Laguna has become a hive of activity of late with various military planning discussions and orders for naval vessels in the air. As it is Edgard Portela, Defence Executive, submitted, by proxy, the Tománnach National Defence Act. This act will effectively ensure a framework from which a realistic functioning defence force may be established and maintained.

The Republic has ordered a total of ten vessels of varying purposes from the Königreich Reichlau Schiffbau in Gotzborg. In addition to this, as a token of goodwill Gotzborg not only continues to lease the Republic HRMS Talamthom and HRMS Gloworm, but also has 'donated' HRMS Poundmaker permanently. HRMS Poundmaker has unofficially been renamed LT Poundmaker to reflect the change of ownership and will receive a new oname officially as soon as possible.

Babkhan Oil

The submission of the Babkhan Oil Act to the Dáil sees a new era for the Republic as they strive to keep a stable energy supply in the future. The act not only ensures the supply but also allows for the commissioning of a new Oil Tanker from Königreich Reichlau Schiffbau. Additionally there will be a state-owned energy company XXX Tománnach responsible for the distribution and sale of supplies. The fuel will mostly be used to provide petrol and electricity.

And finally...

The United Counties of Riponia. Who you may be asking!? Well why not go visit them as the Dáil is about to issue a statement of recognition.

Interior Ministry Under New Leadership

Friday 30th October saw the appointment of Mr Ben Gray to Director of the Interior in a novel move by President Grieve. The appointment technically brings the Home Office under Executive control, though sources within the Áras were quick to emphasise the temporary nature of the scheme.

This could be the first in a series of moves aimed at cultivating wider participation, it was also claimed. The creation of several new non-Ministerial postings throughout the government would be used to raise interest, and possibly draw new citizens in what President Grieve has described as "opening up the Executive."

This is not the first time President Grieve has used his Executive powers to muscle in on the Cabinet. In July 2005, an Executive Announcement was used to appoint Mr O Ceallaigh to the position of Acting Foreign Minister.

President Steps In to Continue Progress on Code of Law

Following the successful passage of a constitutional ammendment to article 8.4 through the Dáil it was thought that a brick wall may have been hit. Tomás Ó Cealliagh (DLP BnhA), in his capacity as speaker, had forwarded the successful bill to the courtyard for and open public vote on its acceptance. Alex Garine, (LPT) then spotted a discrepency with such an action citing article thirteen of the constitution.

Article thirteen states, irrespective of the urgency of the bill or the public support for the bill, that;
"Referenda are held at the nearest general election."
This clause, which had caught Ó Ceallaigh unaware initial enraged him as he considered filing and ammendment bill to the Dáil. After finding a small get out clause which stated that;
"The President may call a referendum."
Which, due to the ambigous nature of the clause, can be interpretted as meaning that the President has the power to call a referendum regardless of the proximity of the referendum to the general election.

The president gave his assent to start the referendum earlier this morning and the voting has been allowed to recommence. The ammendment itself would allow for the easy implementation of a foreign judge with nations of which the Republic shares an appropriate treaty - the presence of a judge at the discussions about the new code of law is generally considered as essential by those involved.

Labour Eyes Indo-China

In a brief message posted in the Tománn Indo-China communication forum, Alex Garine, leader of the Labour Party and Premier of East Fealsamthom, has made known his intentions for Labour to 'organise' in the Region.

At this point in time it is unknown exactly what Garine's intentions are for the Region. It has though prompted interest in the questions and answers session in the Labour Party Congress.
