Labour Eyes Indo-China

In a brief message posted in the Tománn Indo-China communication forum, Alex Garine, leader of the Labour Party and Premier of East Fealsamthom, has made known his intentions for Labour to 'organise' in the Region.

At this point in time it is unknown exactly what Garine's intentions are for the Region. It has though prompted interest in the questions and answers session in the Labour Party Congress.

The Dáil Is Ticking Over Nicely

The Dáil, Talamthom's legislative body, appears at last to functioning smoothly. This comes after a chronicle of failures to ensure full activity and even a speaker for the house in the previous term.

With a speaker in place and all ministers seemingly attending to their duties, albeit with differing levels of success, the institution appears to be working effectively with plenty of bills passed and more on the way.

The 'Treaty of Freetown' with Cyberia and the new set of Dáil rules of procedure are both expected to be signed off by the President within the next 12 hours. In addition to this a constitutional ammendment which would see an end to inactive political party forums is well on its way to being ratified by the Dáil - this ammendment would bring to an end the presence of the Communist Party on the Tománnach forums.

The History of Talamthom: Volume I

The History of Talamthom: Volume I

Myth

As the Myth has it the first person ever to walk upon the island that would become Talamthom was the father of the first recognised founder. In a time where tales of mysticism ruled the minds of the people as much as ancient chieftains did, the story goes that an ‘entity’ stole away the bride of a chieftain named Tomá who live somewhere around what is Galway in the modern day Irish Republic. He followed her to the island and fought for her back against a tribe of banshees, dragons and evil wood dwellers. The upshot being that once he’d rescued her he stood in the bay of Baile na hÁlainn and said “One day here will stand a beautiful city” and that is where Baile na hÁlainn gets its name “The Beautiful City”. He then sailed home to Ireland where he would go on to have a son.

The Departure from Ireland

It was Tomá’s son, who carried also the same name, who would be the first to lead people to the Island. Some time around 832 AD the Vikings attacked Ireland in force under command of warrior named Tuirgeis. Upon the receiving the news of invasion, Tomá decided that he and any tribe should sail off in search of a new homeland westward of Ireland. He sought to protect Celtic cultures and their new found faith of Christianity originally brought to Ireland hundreds of years before by St. Patrick from the Paganism of the Vikings. He spoke to his father who was ill at the time about his decision to search for a virgin territory. His father spoke about the land he had found in the west whilst rescuing his bride from those who had abducted her for ill purpose.

Tomá, the chieftains of three other clans and their collected tribes met, made peace with one another and decided to act upon Tomá’s musings. So it was exactly a year and a half later in early 834 AD that they had collected their necessary items for survival, built their ships and finally waved goodbye to their homeland.

The Arrival

With only a few minor problems upon the seas, the weary voyagers came to rest in the very same bay that Tomá’s father had departed from years before. Tomá and his tribe set about the establishment of a settlement that they named Baile na hÁlainn after the story that Tomá’s father had spoken of. As an ode to the two Tomás that had between them discovered the island they decided to name the island after them and so was born Talamh-Tomá (Tomá’s Land) which would through the generations would become known as Talamthom.

It is possible to see from the original distribution of land to the various tribes how the modern counties have come about. Tomá’s clan would go on to build the capital and settle on Isles of Codail (The Sleepy Isles) and the region directly around Baile na hÁlainn down as far as modern day Co. Mainistir and parts of Co. Tintál. O'Ceallaigh would settle his clan in the west (in modern day Co. Shantor), Clann Fhearghus in the north-west (Co. Dun Fhyla), Muintir Lideadha in the north-east (Co. Talamayo).

These clans all developed within their regions separately but still the heads of the clans would meet and discuss issues. With the steady inflow of people fleeing Vikings and the like the population grew steadily along with those intermarrying between clans. By 838 AD a group of monks had established a monastery in the East of the island (modern day Co. Mainistir) and more people were settling there. The only place that remained distinctly unpopulated was the south what is now Fealsamthom.

During Tomá’s final years he became something of a thinker and immersed himself in Christianity and forms of early theology. He decided to cede his chieftain title to his son MacCuhaill and moved down to the south of the country where he and some other tribal elders established a town which would many years later be the site of the islands first University and a centre for free thought later on, Fealsamthom. Fealsamthom is a derivative of an original name that translated as “Tomá the Philosopher.”

The First King of All Talamthom

By 1050 AD it is understood that all of the modern day names of Tománn regions were in place having been adopted by the locals and then getting in wider use as trade between regions increased and mobility was greater increased by the growing number of horses on Talamthom.

With the growing number of people arriving on the island it was decided by the chieftains that a true leaders was needed to rule all Talamthom. One of the chief duties of the king would be to keep order between Mainistir and Tintál who had been arguing over a lake that fell roughly over both sides of their borders. A king was selected and, not to everyone’s approval, a descendant of O’Ceallaigh was chosen, his name was Joseph. He was crowned and a palace built in Baile na hÁlainn which was chosen as a capital for its sea trade links and historical significance.

And so out of the unity of the 8 different regions of the island came The Kingdom of Talamthom governed for the first time wholly from a palace in Baile na hÁlainn. The kingdom stayed constantly under the control of the O’Ceallaigh family through all the failed Mainistiri uprisings and attempted invasions from Norman forces in the early 1100s.

The History of Talamthom, although already written, will be published in the Tománn Independent in four volumes for the next three Saturdays.

TFA Season Kicks Off

The Tománnach Premier League (TPL) and Tománn Football Association (TFA) Division Two competitions both kicked off last night officially bringing the summer sporting drought to an end. After the dissappointment of the joint TFA and Novaya Zemlya SFA Champions League being called off fans were left desperate for more action. With Zemlya's collapse as a country and time running out ultimately there was nothing anyone could do but wait.

Loutradis resigns from LPT

Christos Loutradis, Interior Minister, has resigned from the Labour Party (LPT) as he believes that the 'leftist party of Talamthom is no longer left-wing but indeed a conservative party with no new ideas. It is his intention to make a move to Democratic Labour (DLP)

This has caused a rather public row in the Courtyard of Baile na hAlainn as well as at party headquarters.

The situation is far from rectified following DLP's members suggesting to Loutradis he should stick it out with the LPT in the greater national interest.

In Brief: Learn TT-JOIN TT

Minister of Home Affairs, Christos Loutradis, announced his project ''Learn TT, Join TT" which will target the more political inclined users of Internet. In particular political sites and forums will be targets of Loutradis as well as large scale advertisments. It is the first time in the history of our Republic that something like this has gone on.

Loutradis: I Will Work for Talamthom's Future

Home Office Minister, Christos Loutradis, after his recent unofficial visit in Gotzborg, and the subsequent objections he received, stated from his house that he works only for Talamthom. He made clear that his only target is the betterment of this Nation, moreover he stated that his work in Interior Ministry will continue after the completion of the next census and his new project 'Learn TT-Join TT'.

He said,
"It was my mistake to visit Gotzborg and I apologize for that... but I did not go there to fight but to discuss, in a personal manner, as a micronationalist for common problems and our common future"

Neo-Soviet Union Take Note

The Dáil Tománn has voted unanimously in favour of the 'Tománn Indo-China (2005) Act'. The act goes a large way towards staking the Tománnach claim over the Region in southern China.

The land was originally leased by the Chinese Soviet Union (CSU) to the Republic in January. Following the collapse of the CSU the government of Talamthom was granted full admin rights to the region regardless of the original treaty agreements.

The CSU then re-emerged as the Neo-CSU as a constituent of the rogue nation, The Neo-Soviet Union (NSU). Talamthom decided to once and for all claim full possession rights of the region, as per the Micronational Cartography Society's maps. Initial objections were raised by those claiming to be in charge of the NSU but were rebuffed by the Foreign and Overseas Territories (FOST) Minister, Tomás Ó Ceallaigh. The Grand Commonwealth also came out in support of Tománnach control of the Region.

Interestingly the NSU government had stated that Talamthom would be an ideal candidate to enter into a treaty with; simultaneously the FOST Office had stated the NSU are not even in line for consideration for relations.

Talamthom Treaty Fails to Excite Cyberia

The recently submitted Talamthom-Cyberia Treaty (or Treaty of Freetown as its known in Cyberia) has failed to excite the legislative fortress that is The Virtual Commonwealth of Cyberia's National Assembly.

The treaty, which is considered by our Republic to be yet another step in the right direction for foreign relations, has been largley ignored in the more established nation. After three days without any acknowledgement from his government Jack Santucci, the President and the man responsible for submitting the treaty to the national assembly, was forced to shake his Speaker, Alan Grieve, into action.

The Speaker as soon as he had responded to the treaty immediately started discussing a treaty with the Grand Commonwealth. Oh well, maybe it is as much to do with the form as the content then Mr Santucci?

LPT Resistance Fails to Halt New Alexandria Treaty

Despite claims by a Labour Party of Talamthom (LPT) Dáil minister that Alexandria is a terrorist state the Treaty has been ratified by a 2:1 ratio. Christos Loutradis at the beginning of the debate had stated:

I am affraid of the conservative and terror-loving policy that Alexandria has and i am sure that we do not want this kind of idelogy to be implemented in our nation.

Although well within his rights to have an opinion, the general consensus is that due to Alexandria's longevity and stability, key factors in the 'Diplomatic Treaty Signing Act', that they are worthy of being considered friends of our Republic.

Christos Loutradis Causes a Storm

Christos Loutradis (LPT at-large), the Interior Minister, in an attempt to attract more citizens to Talamthom's shores has managed to annoy the Gotzborg royal family. Both Princess Julia and King August Charles have seen fit to complain, through various media, about what they perceive as blatant 'citizen snatching' attempts.

Whilst Princess Julia complained in the Courtyard of Baile na hAlainn (quite publicly), the King saw fit to approach the matter with a little more restraint an instead sent a complaint to the Foreign Office. The Foriegn Minister, Tomás Ó Ceallaigh, replied in a restrained and dignified manner and requested that the Home Office suspend its recruitment drive until after further consultation with senior government officials.

The incident, although embarrasing for the Home Office, will most likely blow over provided there is no repeat performance elsewhere.

MCS Only Please

Following the passing of the 'Immersion into the MCS Act', the Foreign Office has been quick to follow-up with the 'Diplomatic Treaty Signing Act'. The Dáil Tománn saw fit to accept the new bill and passed it unanimously.

The new act means that the Republic can only enter into any formal treaty negociations with other members of the Micronational Cartography Society, as their maps are now recognised as the only true depiction of micras by the government.

This action will not have any retrospective effect and will not prohibit the Dáil from issuing statements of recognition (like the one issued for the Kingdom of Breuddwyd).

With other treaties in the pipeline, this legislation is already being put to good use.

TFA Fixture Lists Released

The Tománn Football Association (TFA) has released the fixture list for the 2005/06 season. The TFA Premier League finds itself renamed the TPL (Tománnach Premier League) but remains the same otherwise.

The season ahead has been eagerly anticipated with new managers and old managers returning in force to manage teams with vacancies. In particular Ardashir Khan, who was sacked from Golden Harps after a string of losses, found himself a new position at Premiership champions Shantor County. He ultimately finds himself in the job with the highest pressure as fans expect a repeat of last season.

There will also be big pressure on East Fealsamthom's only professional team Attaman FC to get themselves promoted back to the TPL after relegation last season. Highport, Talamayo's second team, find themselves up there with big boys, a challenge the team are likely to relish.

The big kick-off is Monday September 10th. Most people can't wait!!
